Travelling with your pet

Travelling with your pet is easy and affordable on our trains.

Dogs, cats and other small pets can travel free of charge on our trains in a pet carrier with a maximum size of 70 x 30 x 50 cm.

Even larger dogs are permitted to accompany you on your journey! Each passenger may travel with a dog of any size, with the relevant ticket for the desired route, provided the animal is kept on a leash and wearing a muzzle.

You can purchase a ticket for your dog for only €5 for train journeys from Sunday to Friday, and for only €1 for train journeys on Saturday.

Where and how to purchase the ticket

To purchase a ticket for your dog on the website and app, please select your train, choose your preferred offer and, before paying, add the “Travelling with your dog” service. You will be able to view the price of the ticket for the dog directly, and add it to your cart. You can also have the ticket issued from the ticket offices in train stations, the Self Service machines, authorised travel agencies or by calling the Trenitalia Call Centre.

Attention: do not forget to bring your dog’s canine registry certificate and health booklet, both of which are mandatory for travelling.
